These two need no introduction, no little “backgrounder”. If you’re reading this then you definitely know who they are, whether you’ve seen them perform or not. PHFat is back and thank goodness for that! Their South African fans missed them. But to be fair, they have been doing some really rad stuff lately, which is why you should prepare yourself for what they’re about to throw at you in the coming weeks.
For the past few weeks, PHFat have been touring the land down under, expanding their global following. From sit-down-pub, to grimy-club gigs to the best festival stages – the rap crew kicked up one hell of a storm in Australia. In between gigs and trying to understand the all too well functioning and far too calm Australia (where taking off your seat-belt to parallel-park is sacrilege), the guys managed to release a new track. And being the solid guys that they are, they even made it downloadable for free.
The track is called ‘Panic at Cluster B’ and it strays a bit from your usual ‘Dinosaur Blood meets Jump meets Egodeth’ track. “It’s a little bit of a detour musically from our last couple tracks, but we decided it was time to kind of scramble our own brains quickly; just to remind ourselves that we can still make music that people wanna mosh to and that, almost certainly won’t get onto radio. It’s also good to make sure that all of the cool sharp edges in your music still exist, because music without any little rough edges is safe and safe music is disposable and boring,” explained Mike.
Luckily for us all the good news doesn’t stop there. With just enough time to change their shirts, PHFat will be embarking on their Panic at Cluster B Tour, starting on 18 March in Port Elizabeth. If you’re in these areas then do yourself, your feet and your inner-thug a favour and make the mission to see these shows. They’ll make the sore feet, stiff legs and killer of a hangover completely worth it.
